Peter Obi Dismisses Defection Rumors, Citing Long-Standing Ties to ADC Coalition

During a live session on X on Sunday night, the 28th of December, 2025, Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), addressed recent speculation regarding his political affiliations and his relationship with other prominent leaders.

Obi sought to dispel rumors about him “joining” the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC), explaining that his involvement with the party is not a new development. He emphasized that he has been an integral part of the coalition since its beginning.

He provided the following insights during the discussion: Obi noted that he is already fundamentally linked to the ADC through the broader coalition. He clarified that there are no arrangements for others within the ADC to withdraw their ambitions in his favor; rather, the focus is on a collective effort.

Despite political shifts, Obi maintained a tone of personal regard for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

​“I am not joining ADC. I can’t re-join what I am already a part of,” Obi said.

​“I’ve been part of the coalition from day one.
​“Nobody is stepping down for me in ADC.

​“We have all agreed to work together and Atiku remains my respected leader.”
