Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has donated ₦60 million to two Nigerian universities as part of his continued support for educational development and youth empowerment.
Obi disclosed this in a post shared on his official X account on Saturday, revealing that the donations were made during separate visits to Dominican University in Ibadan and Peter University located in Achina.
According to him, he first visited Dominican University a few weeks ago, where he donated ₦30 million to support the institution’s educational development.
He said the gesture was extended on March 6 during a visit to Peter University in Achina/Onneh, where he made another ₦30 million contribution to assist the institution’s growth and academic programmes.
The former Anambra State governor said the donations were part of his long-standing belief that education remains one of the most valuable investments any society can make.
“For me, education is one of the most enduring investments that any society can make,” Obi said. “It opens doors for individuals, strengthens communities and prepares nations for the challenges of tomorrow.”

He described the contributions as a privilege, noting that he considers it important to support institutions committed to learning, character formation and service to society whenever the opportunity arises.
Obi also explained that his visits were not merely ceremonial but meant to reinforce the role of universities as centres for intellectual growth and national development.
According to him, higher institutions should inspire young people to look beyond their immediate environment and recognise their potential as contributors to global progress.
“My visit was an affirmation of my belief that universities should remain centres where young men and women are inspired to dream beyond their immediate circumstances,” he said.
Obi concluded his message with his widely known political mantra, expressing optimism about the country’s future and reiterating that “a new Nigeria is possible.”
