Peter Obi: I’ll address insecurity as my priority if elected president

Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the upcoming general elections, has declared that when his administration takes office in 2023, eliminating insecurity will be its top priority.

The high degree of insecurity, the apparent neglect of the agricultural sector, as well as other reasons like the flooding of farmlands, according to Obi, who made this disclosure in a statement via his verified Facebook account, are to blame for the current, severe rise in food inflation in the nation.

The LP flagbearer participated in the celebration of World Food Day and said that although insecurity has kept farmers away from their farms, the sector’s poor performance is still due to a lack of investment.

“In pursuance of our vision of moving the country from consumption to production, I will tackle insecurity as my first priority in government, while ensuring that the vast lands littered across the nation, especially in the North, are well invested in, for massive food production,” he promised.

In a similar spirit, the former governor of Anambra State stated that the desired New Nigeria is one in which the populace can hold its leaders accountable.

He argued that to improve, both leaders and people under their control must learn to take constructive criticism.

“The new Nigeria we seek is one in which citizens can criticise and hold leaders accountable,” Obi added.

The LP presidential candidate claims that his most recent remarks follow recent discussions in which some people questioned or constructively criticized his behavior or statements, and some of his followers reprimanded the critics for speaking up.

Obi stated that he appreciates such constructive criticism and that it will help him be a more adaptable and responsive leader.

He added that people who openly criticize him do it with his and Nigeria’s best interests in mind.
