Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has resumed public activities after a brief medical hiatus that saw him cancel weekend engagements.
Obi had shared on his official X account on Saturday that he fell ill during a tourism event in Enugu on Friday. Following his doctor’s advice, he paused all public appearances both within Nigeria and abroad.
“I am complying with my doctor’s advice and will be taking a short rest, during which I will not be able to meet up with scheduled engagements,” he had said.
However, in a post on X on Tuesday, September 9, Obi revealed that he resumed his engagements on Monday by visiting a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) run by a Nigerian entrepreneur he had met previously.

He underscored the vital role SMEs play in driving economic growth, noting that MDH employs over 50 young Nigerians directly and indirectly, with room for expansion if supported by investment and policy measures.
Obi drew international comparisons, saying: “In Bangladesh, textiles account for over 70% of national exports, generating over $50 billion annually.
“Our textile sector has regrettably collapsed and now contributes very little to the national economy. This shows how much untapped potential lies within our borders.”
He called once again for Nigeria to shift from a consumption-driven economy to one focused on local production, particularly by fostering SMEs.
“Investing in small businesses is key to lifting millions out of poverty and positioning Nigeria as a global player in creativity and trade,” Obi said.
