Peter Obi Says No Presidential Candidate Matches His Wealth-Creation Experience

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has said no current presidential hopeful, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, can match his experience in creating and managing wealth.

Obi made the remark during an interview on News Central’s 60 Minutes with Kay aired on Thursday while reacting to comments about the qualifications of leading political figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during the interview, Obi said qualifications for leadership depend on individual perspectives and national priorities.

“Qualification is a viewpoint and it depends on where you are coming from. Kwankwaso said he was more qualified because he has a PhD, which isn’t bad. I don’t have a PhD,” Obi stated.

The former Anambra State governor acknowledged the political and administrative experience of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, noting that the former Kano governor had served as a minister and remained politically exposed.

“He has some experience, he’s exposed. He was a minister. There’s no doubt about that. I don’t think his statement was incorrect,” Obi said.

However, Obi argued that Nigeria’s current challenges require a leader with practical experience in wealth creation and economic management.

“But right now, Nigeria needs someone who can create wealth and manage it effectively,” he added.

The former governor further claimed that his business background and entrepreneurial journey distinguish him from other contenders in the political space.

“I have created well-known businesses starting from the ground up both locally and around the world.

“No one today, not even the president, can say they’ve gone through what I’ve gone through,” Obi stated.

His comments come amid growing political realignments and intensified conversations around potential contenders for the 2027 presidential election.
