Peter Obi Urges NDC Candidates To Prioritise Service Over Political Privileges

Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged candidates of the party in Lagos State to prioritise service to Nigerians over political positions and privileges.

Obi made the call in a post on his X account on Tuesday after attending a dinner organised for Lagos NDC candidates and hosted by the Lagos Obidient Movement.

The former Anambra State governor said seeking public office should not be driven by titles, positions or the privileges attached to political power, but by a commitment to serve the people and contribute to building a better Nigeria.

“Seeking public office is not about titles, positions, or the privileges associated with them. It is about accepting the responsibility to serve and committing ourselves to building a better Nigeria,” Obi said.

He said the hardship and suffering experienced by Nigerians should remind political leaders of the enormous responsibility entrusted to them by the electorate.

According to him, Nigerians deserve leaders who are accessible, actively engaged in governance, accountable and willing to lead by example.

Obi also called for a change in the country’s political culture, saying politics should be built around competence, character, capacity, compassion and a genuine commitment to the common good.

“Our politics must establish a standard for others to follow. It must therefore be founded on competence, character, capacity, compassion, and a genuine commitment to the common good,” he said.

The NDC presidential candidate maintained that a better Nigeria remained achievable but would require leaders who are ready to accept responsibility, lead by example and remain accessible to the people.

“A better Nigeria is within reach, but achieving it requires leaders who are prepared to lead by example and remain accessible,” Obi added.

He concluded with his campaign message, saying, “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
