PHOTOS: Police Rescue Five Kidnap Victims, Kill Five Kidnappers, Recover Arms in Kebbi, Abia Crackdown

The Nigeria Police Force says it has achieved major breakthroughs in its recent operations against criminal gangs in Kebbi and Abia States, rescuing five kidnap victims, killing five suspected kidnappers, and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Tuesday, the operations were part of efforts to strengthen internal security and protect citizens.

In Kebbi State, police operatives, working with other security agencies and vigilantes, tracked armed kidnappers who had abducted three persons, Muhammad Nasamu Namata (25), Gide Namata (20), and Hamidu Alhaji Namani (35) from Sangara Village, Shanga LGA, on July 27, 2025.

The victims were rescued after a fierce gun battle in Shanga Hills, while the assailants fled with gunshot wounds.

In another operation on August 15, operatives on patrol in Danko/Wasagu LGA engaged armed bandits near Dankade Village.

Two men, Tukur Bello (26) and Isyaka Abubakar (25) who had been kidnapped while grazing cattle in Gairi Forest, Zamfara State, were rescued and reunited with their families.

Similarly, in Abia State, police stormed a kidnappers’ den in Umuiku Obete Village, Ukwa West LGA, following intelligence reports. The gang, which had been terrorizing travelers along Umuozo Village and Uratta Road, engaged operatives in a gun battle but were overpowered. Five suspected kidnappers were killed, while arms recovered included six AK-47 rifles, 335 rounds of live ammunition, 14 magazines, and other weapons and items.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the officers for their commitment and urged them to sustain the momentum in the fight against violent crime.

He reassured Nigerians of the Force’s resolve to protect lives and maintain law and order across the country.
