Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled an attempted terrorist infiltration of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Kasuwan Daji in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers and rescuing nine abducted civilians.

The attack occurred at about 1:40 a.m. on Saturday when suspected terrorists attempted to breach the military base under the cover of darkness.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Lt. Olaniyi Osoba, troops detected the movement of the attackers and responded with coordinated and overwhelming firepower.

The military said the fierce resistance forced the terrorists to abandon their mission and retreat in disarray.

The army said reinforcements were subsequently deployed, and troops launched a pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, who had abducted an unspecified number of residents from nearby communities during the attack.

It was gathered that the operation resulted in the successful rescue of nine abducted civilians, who were recovered safely.

The Army, however, disclosed that one Army officer and one police officer were killed during the exchange of gunfire.

Two soldiers also sustained gunshot wounds and were evacuated by air to a medical facility for advanced treatment. The military said both personnel are in stable condition.

The military described the failed assault as another major setback for terrorist groups operating in the North-West, noting that the operation highlighted the increasing pressure being mounted on criminal elements across the theatre of operations.

The command also dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that six security personnel were killed during the attack.

It clarified that only one Army officer and one police officer lost their lives in the operation.

Operation Fansan Yamma reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups, protecting vulnerable communities and restoring lasting peace and security across the North-West region.
