Troops of Operation Eastern Sanity have dismantled a camp belonging to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during ongoing military operations in the South-East region.
The military said the offensive operation, conducted with support from the Nigerian Air Force, targeted insurgent strongholds in Anambra and Imo States as part of efforts to restore security in the region.
According to a statement shared on the Nigerian Army’s Facebook page on Thursday, troops on March 3 advanced into Camp Gbadoanya located in Orsumoghu, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The operation involved coordinated ground assaults and aerial surveillance aimed at clearing remaining militants believed to be operating within the camp and nearby forests.
During the raid, several suspected insurgent camps were discovered, searched and subsequently destroyed.
It was gathered that security forces recovered a range of weapons and materials, including pump-action guns, locally fabricated dane guns, assorted rifle magazines, rifle components, ammunition belts and cutting machines.
Other items reportedly seized include Biafran-branded currency, materials used for manufacturing improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and musical instruments believed to belong to a Biafran Army band.
Troops also recovered a Biafran flag and a flag marked as Biafran Army Headquarters.
The military said follow-up operations continued on March 4, leading to the destruction of additional camps within the Gbadoanya axis.

During the extended clearance operation, troops uncovered a suspected IED fabrication site within the camp.
The facility, according to the statement, was dismantled after security personnel recovered several items believed to be used in the production of explosives.
Recovered equipment includes welding machines, drilling machines, filling machines, car batteries and an electrode welding handle.
The military added that a sustained offensive is part of broader efforts under Operation Eastern Sanity to dismantle militant infrastructure linked to IPOB/ESN and to stabilise security across parts of the South-East.
Authorities said that clearance operations will continue in the area to ensure that remnants of the militant groups are completely flushed out.
