A total of 142 abducted persons have regained their freedom in Zamfara State following their release by a notorious bandit kingpin, Muhammadu Dansaadiyya, also known as Dan Sadiya.
The victims, who were kidnapped from Gidan Gardawa, Kyambarawa, Maguru, Kurya Madaro, Kagara, Yankaba, Madira, and Dogon Daji villages in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, were released on Wednesday without ransom as part of ongoing peace negotiations.
According to a statement by security sources quoted by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, on Thursday, the freed captives were received around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, before being taken to the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda for medical examination and debriefing.

The statement added that, the victims were later reunited with their families.
The release is seen as part of the federal government’s non-kinetic strategy to restore peace in the North-West and secure the freedom of those still held in captivity.
