The Kano State Police Command has launched a special security initiative codenamed ‘Operation Kukan Kura’, leading to the arrest of 98 suspects linked to various crimes across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, announced the development on Thursday during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Bompai.
He said the operation was designed to proactively detect and prevent crimes such as thuggery, kidnapping, banditry, drug abuse, and other social vices within Kano metropolis and along the state’s borders.
“Significant breakthroughs have been made since the launch of the operation on 1st of July, 2025,” CP Bakori stated.
He explained that the operation aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, which promotes a community-oriented approach to policing.
Between the last press briefing on June 16 and the present, CP Bakori revealed that 98 individuals were arrested in connection with 21 major criminal cases ranging from armed robbery and kidnapping to drug trafficking, vehicle theft, fraud, and thuggery.
The arrests followed a series of targeted operations carried out in identified crime-prone areas across the state.

Items recovered include, Six stolen vehicles, Eight tricycles, 10 motorcycles, Thirteen mobile phones, Five motor batteries, Three spare tyres and $10,000 in counterfeit.
The police also seized a large quantity of illicit substances, including, 42 tubes of red solution, 35 parcels and 1,123 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa, 86 bottles of “suck and die.”
Others include 30 sachets and 43 pieces of Exol tablets, 10 sachets and 53 pieces of diazepam, 16 cutlasses and 98 knives were confiscated.
CP Bakori reiterated the command’s resolve to safeguard lives and property and urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement efforts through timely information sharing.
“We are committed to making Kano safe for all. Public cooperation is key to the success of our operations,” he said.
