The Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development in Abuja was on Thursday brought to a standstill as members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) held a dramatic protest, effectively halting all operations at the ministry’s headquarters.

The labor union surged onto the premises, brandishing placards and singing solidarity songs in a spirited demonstration to seek justice for Victor Ekpaha, a ministry employee who was reportedly wrongfully dismissed unlawfully more than twenty years ago.

NLC disclosed that Ekpaha’s termination, which dates back more than 20 years, was ruled illegal by a competent court of law.

Despite the court’s judgment ordering his reinstatement, the ministry has reportedly failed to comply.

The protesters insisted that Ekpaha be reinstated immediately and compensated with full remuneration covering the entire 20-year period of his absence from service.
