The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 44-year-old hired killer and cult leader, Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement released on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.
According to the statement, Akinwande was apprehended on June 20, by operatives of the Tactical Squad during a carefully planned operation at his hideout in Agbado, Ogun State, after years of evading arrest.
Described as the mastermind behind a wave of deadly crimes, Akinwande is believed to be responsible for numerous murders, kidnappings, armed robberies, and cult-related violence, particularly in the Mushin area of Lagos, dating as far back as 2009.
“This serial killer suspect is the most wanted in Lagos in recent times.
“His arrest marks a huge success in the ongoing fight against violent crimes that threaten the security and safety of residents in Mushin and other parts of the state.”
According to the police, Akinwande led a network of gangs and criminal groups that terrorised communities for over a decade.

His ability to move between states helped him evade law enforcement, but the Command said it remained steadfast in its pursuit of justice.
During a follow-up raid on his residence in Mushin, police recovered a cache of weapons and incriminating materials reportedly used in his criminal operations.
Items recovered include two AK-47 rifles, one K2 assault rifle, one Red Ryder rifle, three pump-action rifles, two locally made single-barrel pistols, five magazines, fifty-seven live cartridges.
Other items are seventy rounds of 5.56mm live ammunition, twenty-seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, one expended 5.56 round, one dagger, three walkie-talkies, and nine international passports belonging to various individuals.
