Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled an attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Magumeri, Borno State, killing scores of insurgents and recovering arms and ammunition during the fierce encounter.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI, Lt. Sani Uba, the attack occurred in the early hours of May 7, 2026, under Sector 3 of the operation.

The statement said the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the military base under poor visibility conditions and managed to breach a minor section of the camp.

However, troops responded swiftly and decisively, overpowering the attackers and preventing them from gaining further access.

The military disclosed that several terrorists were neutralised during the confrontation, while follow-up exploitation operations revealed extensive blood trails, dragged bodies and the recovery of terrorist corpses within the surrounding area, indicating heavy casualties among the insurgents.

Troops also recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition abandoned by the fleeing terrorists. The recovered items included PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, AK-47 rifles and several magazines.
