Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 10 kidnapped civilians in separate operations across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states as part of intensified efforts to combat terrorism and kidnapping in the North-West.
The latest operations, conducted between August 18 and 19, 2026, also resulted in the recovery of two motorcycles abandoned by terrorists and the evacuation of two wounded kidnapping victims for medical treatment.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force, Lt. Aliyu Danja, on Thursday.
In Sokoto State, troops on patrol in Isa Local Government Area came under attack from terrorists on August 19.
The troops responded swiftly, engaging the attackers and forcing them to flee from the area.
During the encounter, the troops rescued five civilians who had been held captive by the terrorists. The victims were subsequently reunited with their families.
Two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists were also recovered during the operation.
Meanwhile, in Kebbi State, troops acted on credible intelligence concerning the abduction of three persons in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area.
It was gathered that troops immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation on August 18, leading to the successful recovery of all three victims.
The rescued civilians were profiled and handed over to the appropriate local authorities for further assistance and reunification with their families.
A similar operation was conducted in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State after troops received information about terrorist activities in the area.

The rapid deployment of troops forced the terrorists to flee, abandoning two captives in the process.
The military said the two victims, who had sustained gunshot wounds during their captivity, were immediately evacuated to a medical facility for urgent medical attention.
Security forces have since commenced efforts to track the fleeing terrorists and bring them to justice.
The latest successes underscore the continued operational pressure being mounted by Operation FANSAN YAMMA against terrorist and criminal elements operating across the North-West.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance, courage and swift response, stressing that their actions had once again prevented the terrorists from carrying out their activities and ensured the safe recovery of innocent civilians.
The command also reaffirmed its determination to sustain offensive operations aimed at disrupting terrorist networks, protecting vulnerable communities and denying criminal elements freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities, noting that public cooperation remains critical to ongoing efforts to protect lives and property.
Operation Fansan Yamma said it would continue to sustain pressure on terrorist groups and other criminal elements until lasting peace and security are restored across the North-West.
