Eight members of the Plateau State House of Assembly on Thursday impeached Speaker Abok Ayuba.
They named a member representing Pengana Constituency, Yakubu Sanda, as the new Speaker of the House.
Ayuba was sacked in the early hours of Thursday by the lawmakers from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) escorted into the chambers amidst tight security.
It was learnt that security agents stationed around the Assembly complex prevented members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from entering the Assembly complex.
After the event, the House of Assembly premises and adjoining roads were taken over by security personnel to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
