Amnesty International Nigeria has urged the Nigerian authorities to intensify efforts to stop the recurring attacks and reprisal killings in Plateau State, warning that residents are living under persistent fear of further violence.
The organisation identified Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, Riyom and Mangu Local Government Areas as some of the areas most affected by the latest incidents.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page on Sunday, Amnesty said the continuing violence reflected what it described as the authorities’ failure to adequately protect communities in the state.
“The crisis in Plateau State again shows utter failure of the Nigerian authorities to protect the people from vicious attacks,” the organisation said.

It warned that insecurity should not become a permanent reality for people living in rural communities across Plateau State, adding that families have sometimes found more bodies in bushes while preparing other victims for mass burial.
“At least 1,336 people were killed in Plateau State between December 2023 and February 2024 alone, with continuous attacks, raids and reprisals continuing into 2025 and 2026,” it said.
Amnesty called on the government to show stronger commitment to protecting residents by improving security measures and ensuring that victims receive justice.
“Consistent failure of the authorities to bring the actual suspected perpetrators to justice is emboldening impunity,” Amnesty said.
