Police arrest ex-Imo gov, Okorocha, to be arraigned Monday

Police in Imo have arrested a former governor of the state, Chief Rochas Okorocha.

The police also arrested some of Okorocha’s aides, including Ijeoma Igboanusi and Lasbrey Okafor-Anyanwu.

While Igboanusi was the deputy chief of staff (Domestics), Okafor-Anyanwu was the Commissioner for Transportation in Okorocha’s government.

Okorocha was arrested on Sunday after unsealing Spring Palm Estate linked to his wife, Nkechi.

The former governor, who is now the senator representing Imo West at the Senate, had stormed the estate along with his supporters, policemen, soldiers and personnel of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps and ordered the unsealing of the estate.

But state government officials, who had also mobilised to the estate, were resisted by Okorocha’s supporters, resulting in a free-for-all in which many were reportedly injured and some cars were damaged.

A police source, however, said that Okorocha was arrested over the incident.

Imo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, who confirmed Okorocha’s arrest said he will be arraigned in court on Monday (tomorrow).
