The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, identified as Nsikak Kingsley, for allegedly assaulting his 65-year-old father to death during a domestic dispute in Oda Community, Akure South Local Government Area of the state.
The tragic incident, which occurred on May 28, has sparked concern among residents of the community and prompted a full-scale police investigation.
According to a statement issued on Thursday night by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ondo State Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, preliminary findings indicate that the suspect allegedly engaged his father, Adone Peter in a heated altercation that escalated into a physical confrontation.
It was gathered that during the incident, the deceased reportedly sustained severe injuries, particularly to the head. He was rushed to a medical facility for urgent treatment but was later confirmed dead by attending medical personnel.
Police said the case was reported by Daniel Moses, another son of the deceased and brother to the suspect, prompting detectives to launch an investigation.
Acting on the complaint, operatives of the command swiftly arrested Kingsley and took him into custody for questioning.
The body of the deceased has been deposited in a mortuary pending an autopsy, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation.
The police disclosed that the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, condemned the alleged act, describing it as unfortunate, reprehensible and contrary to societal values.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice is served and warned that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
The commissioner also urged residents to reject violence and adopt peaceful means of resolving disputes, particularly within families and communities.
“Disagreements should never degenerate into acts of violence capable of causing injury or loss of life,” the police chief said.
The Ondo State Police Command further called on residents to remain vigilant and law-abiding, while encouraging the prompt reporting of suspicious activities and criminal acts to security agencies.
