Police arrest notorious car thief in Bayelsa

Bayelsa State Police Command says its operatives have arrested one Ahmed Maruf, a suspected notorious car thief and recovered a stolen Toyota Camry car.

Spokesman for the command, SP Asinim Butswat, said in a statement on Wednesday that the police received a report that a vehicle was stolen from where it was parked at Coconut Street, Edepie, Yenagoa, on July 24, 2020. 

Butswat said the Commissioner of Police, Mike Okoli, detailed police operatives to carry out discreet investigation.

He said the investigation by police detectives led to the arrest of Maruf on September 4, 2020 at Imiringi Road, Yenagoa. 

The spokesman said the suspect confessed to the crime and took police operatives to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where the car was recovered. 

He said investigation was ongoing.
