Operatives of the Adamawa Police Command have apprehended a suspect linked to the murder of a 35-year-old Point of Sale (POS) operator, Abbas Yuguda, in the Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
According to reports, the incident occurred when Yuguda was attacked on his way home by a group of armed assailants.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje disclosed this in a statement, shared on the command’s X handle on Monday, stating that the victim was struck violently, causing serious head injuries that rendered him unconscious.
The statement further added that operatives of the Mayo-Belwa Divisional Headquarters responded to the scene and rushed the victim to Cottage Hospital, Mayo-Belwa, where he was pronounced death.
It was reported that some group of angry mob had captured and beat one of the suspects identified as Umar Snu, who is hospitalised and helping the police with further investigations.
The statement read, “The Adamawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the gruesome killing of a POS operator, Abbas Yuguda, 35 years old, who was attacked in Mayo-Belwa LGA.

“The incident occurred on 22nd March, 2025, when the victim was on his way home after closing from his business premises. Some groups of people armed themselves with offensive weapons, attacked and inflicted severe injuries on his head and left him lying in a pool of blood.
“The command’s operatives attached to Divisional police headquarters, Mayo Belwa arrived at the scene and immediately rushed the victim to Cottage Hospital, Mayo-Belwa, in a bid to save his life but sadly he was confirmed dead while on admission receiving treatment.
“On the strength of that, one of the suspects identified as Umar SNU, was trailed by some angry youths, he was subdued to mob action before being rescued by the police. He was equally rushed to Hospital for medical attention now aiding investigation.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, strongly condemned this act of violence and has directed a thorough and discreet investigation to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. He also warns members of the public to desist from taking laws into their hands, and urged them to allow the law to always take its course.
“The Command urges residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.”
