Police Arrest Suspect Over Murder, Dismemberment of Pregnant Nurse

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old female suspect, Somtochukwu Nwafor, over the gruesome murder of a pregnant nurse, whose mutilated body was discovered in a soakaway pit in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that the suspect lured the victim under the guise of seeking medical attention. During interrogation, Nwafor confessed to being the girlfriend of the prime suspect, Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, who is currently at large. She revealed that after the murder, she was invited to clean up the crime scene and witnessed the sale of the victim’s body parts to native doctors in the area.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, a trained nurse, was deceived into visiting the suspect’s residence, where she was killed, dismembered, and her body parts harvested for ritual purposes.

Following the confession, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) raided a shrine belonging to a native doctor, Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile, in Itima Amawa Village, Ogbunike, on July 29, 2025. During the operation, human body parts concealed in nylon bags were recovered. The police have since launched a manhunt for the prime suspect and other alleged collaborators involved in the crime.
