Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper, Rescue Victim In Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping, arresting a suspected abductor and rescuing a victim in Isua Akoko, headquarters of Akoko South-East Local Government Area.

The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was reportedly abducted by three men while working on a farm.

However, in a dramatic turn of events, he managed to escape after resisting his captors and striking one of them on the head.

Confirming the development in a statement on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the case is currently being handled by the command’s anti-kidnapping unit for further investigation.

According to Jimoh, the incident was reported on April 10, 2026, when a resident, identified as Ahmadu, alerted the Isua Police Division that two young men had gone to Ipesi Akoko for cattle rearing, but only one returned.

“Acting promptly on the report, police operatives launched a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation which led to the successful rescue of the kidnapped victim,” the statement read.

The victim later recounted that he was taken at night by three armed suspects but fought back during the ordeal, injuring one of them in the process.

Leveraging information obtained from the victim, police operatives traced the suspects to Obasanjo Motor Park in Isua, where a man with a visible head injury was arrested in the early hours of the morning.

Jimoh disclosed that the suspect confessed to participating in the abduction and was positively identified by the victim, who pointed to the head injury as evidence.

The rescued victim has since been taken to a medical facility for treatment, while the suspect has been transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit for further interrogation and prosecution.

The police assured residents of sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the state, urging the public to continue providing timely information to security agencies.
