Police Arrest Teenager, Five Others for Plucking Out Sister’s Eyes in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a 17-year-old boy, Auwal Dahiru, along with five accomplices, for allegedly removing the eyes of his seven-year-old sister, Rukayya Muhammad, in a suspected ritual-related incident in Bayan Dutse Village, Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, revealed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the gruesome act occurred on October 17, 2025, and was reported by one Muhammad Adamu at the Soro Divisional Police Headquarters.

According to Wakil, preliminary investigations showed that the suspect lured his younger sister into a nearby bush, where he brutally attacked her and forcefully plucked out both of her eyes in a desperate attempt to use them for money rituals.

“The victim’s father disclosed that his son, Auwal, lured Rukayya, who shares the same parents with him, into the bush under false pretence before carrying out the horrifying act,” Wakil stated.

He said the Divisional Police Officer of Soro Division, Aliyu Goni, immediately led a team of detectives to the scene, resulting in the prompt arrest of the suspect.

Wakil added that further investigation led to the arrest of five additional suspects linked to the incident — identified as Mohammed Rabiu (19), Saleh Ibrahim (20), Nasiru Muhammad, Hassan Garba, and Garba Dahiru (43).

“All the suspects voluntarily confessed to their involvement during interrogation,” the statement read.

He assured that investigations are ongoing to establish the full motive behind the crime and ensure that everyone connected to the act faces justice.

This development comes amid rising concerns over ritual-related crimes in parts of the country, as the police continue to intensify efforts to curb such gruesome acts through community policing and intelligence-led operations.
