The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a 33-year-old woman whose body was discovered in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara, 26, and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, 20, were apprehended following weeks of investigation by detectives who relied on intelligence gathering and digital forensic evidence to unravel the case.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, noting that the investigation began after the deceased’s mother reported her missing at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters on March 13, 2026.
According to the police, the following day, the lifeless body of an unidentified woman was found inside a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop. The deceased was later identified by her father as the woman who had been reported missing.
Following the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka, detectives intensified efforts to track down those responsible for the crime.
Ikenga stated that the suspects were eventually arrested on June 6 after investigators followed intelligence leads and digital evidence linking them to the murder.
During interrogation, the principal suspect, Ikwugwara, allegedly confessed to committing the crime and revealed that he had been in a relationship with the deceased for about three years.
He claimed he was unaware that the woman was married and alleged that a disagreement with her husband later led to personal grievances, which he believed contributed to an illness that affected his eyesight.
Police said the suspect confessed that he lured the victim to his residence on March 13 under the pretext of seeking assistance due to his illness.

Upon her arrival, he and the second suspect allegedly attacked her with a machete, leading to her death.
The suspects were also said to have disposed of the victim’s body in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop during the early hours of the following day in an attempt to conceal the crime.
According to the police, both suspects have admitted their involvement in the murder and will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the detectives for their persistence and professionalism in solving the case.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of crime and bringing perpetrators to account.
