Police confirm another attack on its facility by hoodlums in Abia

Police on Thursday confirmed attack on yet another police station in Abia State, South-East.

In a statement in Umuahia by the state police spokesperson, Geoffrey Ogbonna, a Superintendent of Police, the force said that the attack happened at Nkporo Police Station in Ohafia Local Government Area of the state. He said it was carried out by “common criminals” who, according to him, were repelled by the police operatives at the station.

Ogbonna said the criminals, suspected to have hibernated around the station, took advantage of the morning rainfall to stage the attack.

He said, “They threw an explosive at the charge room which caused damage to the counter, chairs, and benches therein.

“They broke the windshield of the patrol van and stole two exhibit motorcycles.” 

He said that no police officer was injured in the attack, adding that police we’re on the trail of the suspects.

In recent times, attacks on police stations have been rampant in the South-East states of Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi and Abia State.

Recall that hoodlums also on April 10, attacked Uzuakoli Police Station in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
