Police Debunks False Terrorist Attack In Abuja, Arrest Suspect For Incitement

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed as false a viral video alleging an ongoing terrorist attack in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, assuring residents that no such incident took place.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the Force described the video as “entirely false, misleading, and malicious,” noting that it was deliberately fabricated to incite panic and erode public confidence in the nation’s security framework.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the footage used in the video was sourced from unrelated online materials and manipulated to create a false narrative of insecurity in the capital city.

Acting swiftly on intelligence, police operatives arrested a suspect identified as Pam Joseph, who is believed to be responsible for the creation and dissemination of the video.

It was gathered that the arrest followed digital forensic investigations that traced the origin and circulation of the content to the suspect.

The police emphasised that while citizens are entitled to freedom of expression, such rights do not include spreading misinformation capable of threatening public peace or national security.

“The public is advised to verify information from credible sources before sharing and to refrain from acts that may incite fear or disorder,” the statement read.

The suspect remains in custody and is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Nigeria Police Force stated that it will continue to monitor digital platforms and take decisive action against individuals who spread false or harmful information.
