Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have foiled a kidnap attempt and rescued a victim following a high-speed pursuit in Akure.
The operation, carried out on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, led to the arrest of one suspect, while other members of the suspected kidnapping syndicate escaped.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the breakthrough aligns with the broader security strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at tackling violent crimes nationwide.
It was gathered that police operatives on routine patrol along the Oba-Ile axis of Akure reportedly acted on credible intelligence after receiving information that a person was shouting for help from inside a moving red Toyota Camry.
The officers immediately mobilised and launched a coordinated chase of the vehicle.
During the pursuit, the suspects pushed the victim, identified as Kayode Alaba, out of the moving car in an apparent attempt to evade arrest.
Despite this, the police maintained the chase, eventually apprehending one suspect, Adegbenro Adeola, and recovering the vehicle used in the operation.
Preliminary findings revealed that the victim had been abducted earlier from his residence along Irese Road in Akure before the police intervention.

Alaba has since been rescued and is receiving medical care, while the arrested suspect is said to be cooperating with investigators.
The command stated that the case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in Akure for further investigation and efforts to track down the fleeing accomplices.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, commended the officers involved for their swift response and professionalism.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and assured residents that all perpetrators would be brought to justice.
The police also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and actionable information to support ongoing efforts to combat crime.
