Police Foil Robbery Attempt in Sagamu, Recover Suspects’ Vehicle

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a robbery attempt in the Sagamu area of the state and recovered a black Lexus GS 350 used by the suspected robbers during the operation.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.

According to Odutola, the swift intervention of officers attached to the Sakura Division in Sagamu averted what could have been a violent robbery incident.

“At about 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday, a distress call was received through the CDC Chairman of Okearedi, Araromi, off Sagamu–Ijebu Ode Expressway, that about five hoodlums were attempting to forcefully gain entry into a residence within the community,” Odutola said.

She added that police patrol teams were immediately mobilized to the scene. However, on sighting the approaching officers, the hoodlums took to their heels, abandoning their operational vehicle in a bid to escape arrest.

“The suspects’ operational vehicle — a black Lexus GS 350 with registration number OGUN TTD 452 TT — was recovered at the entrance of the community,” she stated.

A search conducted on the car led to the recovery of fireworks (knockouts), which the police believe were intended to be used as a distraction during the operation.

Commending the swift response, the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, applauded the officers for their professionalism and timely action.

Ogunlowo further revealed that the command had intensified its security operations across identified flashpoints in Ogun State as part of its end-of-year safety measures.

He assured residents of sustained police visibility and proactive intervention against criminal elements, while urging members of the public to remain vigilant, especially during late-night movements.

“Residents should ensure their surroundings are well-lit, particularly in dark or isolated areas, as criminals often exploit such environments,” Ogunlowo advised.

The command also encouraged residents to stay connected to its verified social media handles for real-time security updates and emergency alerts.
