The Nigeria Police Force has launched an urgent investigation into a viral video showing a woman, believed to be the mother, feeding alcohol to a young child.
The disturbing footage, which surfaced online over the weekend, has sparked public outrage and widespread condemnation. In the clip, the unidentified woman is seen giving what appears to be alcohol to the infant, with a caption claiming it helps the child “sleep better at night.”
Reacting on Monday via a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the police described the act as both illegal and dangerous, vowing to bring the woman to justice.
“We are aware of this distressing video and are investigating urgently. Exposing a child to alcohol is illegal and poses a serious threat to their health and well-being,” the statement read.

The police urged members of the public, including social media user #ChuksEricE, believed to be one of the first to share the video, to provide any credible information that could lead to the woman’s identification and arrest.

Child rights advocates have also joined the call for swift action, warning that incidents like this underscore the urgent need for better enforcement of child protection laws across Nigeria.
