The Ogun State Police Command has recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and a Mercedes-Benz GLK in a follow-up operation linked to a robbery incident in Ota, where a suspected armed robber was killed.
The recovery came a day after police operatives foiled a robbery in Ijaba, Iyesi, Ota, recovering two vehicles, a locally made pistol and several items suspected to have been stolen.
The command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday, November 2, 2026.
According to the statement, a search of the unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK led to the discovery of an AK-47 rifle and two rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
The police said the recovered vehicle and exhibits had been secured, while investigations continued to establish their ownership and possible links to other criminal activities.
The latest recovery followed an operation in the early hours of Sunday, November 1, when operatives attached to the Onipanu Division, under the Ota Area Command, responded to a distress call reporting a robbery in Ijaba, Iyesi.
Babaseyi said the patrol team arrived at the scene at about 1:45 a.m., but the suspected robbers opened fire upon sighting the officers.
The police responded, leading to an exchange of gunfire in which one suspect was killed, while other members of the gang escaped with suspected gunshot injuries.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of a Nissan Almera and a Toyota Camry, alongside several items believed to have been stolen.
The recovered property included HP and Dell laptops, a PlayStation console, four mobile phones, a Samsung television, a standing fan, a rechargeable radio, a Wi-Fi device, clothing and other household items.
