The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced plans to celebrate 70 years of women in policing in the country, with a two-day event scheduled for December 3 and 4, 2025, in Abuja.
The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the anniversary marks “seven decades of courage, resilience, and dedication to service” since the first set of policewomen were enlisted in 1955.
Hundeyin said the event would highlight the critical role women have played in law enforcement and community trust-building nationwide. The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, is expected to join serving and retired female officers in commemorating the historic milestone.
Quoting the IGP, Hundeyin stated: “The dedication and compassion of women in policing have continued to be integral to the foundation of the Nigeria Police Force. Over the past seven decades, women have distinguished themselves in various capacities — from administration and investigations to tactical operations and command leadership.”

The IGP praised the integrity, empathy, and excellence demonstrated by women officers, describing them as “a source of pride and inspiration to the institution and the nation.”
According to the statement, activities marking the anniversary will include a national lecture, historical exhibition, interactive panel sessions, and a community outreach programme.
Hundeyin added that the celebration reinforces the police leadership’s commitment to inclusivity, professionalism, and continuous capacity development for female personnel, while appreciating the contributions of both serving and retired women officers whose service, he said, has “redefined policing with compassion and purpose.”
