Police Urge Nigerians To Report Officers Without Name Tags

The Nigeria Police Force has called on members of the public to report any officer on duty who is not wearing a visible name tag.

The directive follows an order from the Inspector-General of Police, Olutunji Disu, mandating full compliance with Section 50(4) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, which requires all police personnel to display their name tags while performing official duties.

In a recent statement, the IGP emphasized the importance of the rule, saying, “We all have our name tags. It is not our standard to work without one.”

Reinforcing the directive, the Force Complaint Response Unit issued a notice on its official X handle on Wednesday, urging citizens to promptly report any officer who violates the regulation.

The unit said the initiative is part of its ongoing #NoToImpunity campaign, which is aimed at strengthening accountability and professionalism within the police force.

“UPDATE IGP @TunjiDisu1 enforces Section 50(4) [Nigeria Police Act 2020]. ‘We all have our name tags. It’s not our standard to work without one.’
“Citizens are advised to report any personnel in breach of this regulation. We say #notoimpunity #policeisyourfriend @CspIniedu,” the statement read.

The latest order is part of broader reforms by the police leadership designed to improve discipline and enhance trust between officers and the public across the country.
