A prominent former presidential adviser, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has issued a stark public challenge to President Bola Tinubu, suggesting that the most beneficial path for Nigeria’s future may be for the President to relinquish his office.
During an appearance on Arise TV’s Daybreak program on Monday, the 8th of December, 2025, Baba-Ahmed articulated his belief that the two and a half years of the Tinubu administration have failed to deliver on core campaign promises or justify the accomplishments the government frequently highlights. He contended that the official narratives propagated by the government are profoundly disconnected from the harsh realities currently experienced by Nigerian citizens.
In a sharp assessment of the disconnect, he stated: “There’s a wide discrepancy between what he says he’s doing and what people say they are living.”
Baba-Ahmed extended his criticism to the nation’s security challenges under the current leadership. He lamented the continuity and perceived escalation of instability, noting: “President Buhari left a terrible security situation and Tinubu doesn’t appear to have improved it; rather, it appears that he has made it worse.”

The former adviser proposed that a combination of factors, including President Tinubu’s age, the fulfillment of his long-standing presidential ambition, and the suggestion that he offers “no further value to offer,” collectively support the demand for his departure.
He concluded his appeal by stating unequivocally: “If President Tinubu loves the survival of Nigeria, I think he should call it quits.”
Looking ahead, Baba-Ahmed advocated that the Nigerian electorate should actively seek a more capable leader in the 2027 elections, proposing that a suitable replacement be found, “whether within or outside his party, who has better qualities.”
