Potable Water Restored in Kano After 10-Year Shutdown

The Kano State Government has successfully restored the supply of potable water to Danbatta, Makoda, and Minjibir in the Kano North Senatorial District after a decade of severe water scarcity.

During a tour of these local government areas to inspect the rehabilitation of the water trunk lines and assess the distribution of potable water, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Umar Haruna Doguwa, disclosed this significant development.

Doguwa emphasized that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains committed to ensuring that every part of Kano State has access to clean drinking water.

As part of this initiative, small water treatment plants in semi-urban centers have undergone complete rehabilitation, leading to the swift resumption of water supply.

He confirmed that potable water is now accessible in Kunya village and Wailari, both in Minjibir Local Government Area, while rigorous efforts are underway to extend the supply to Danbatta Local Government.

“It is very unfortunate that these villages have been without water for over eight years, despite having pipe-borne connections. However, the negligence of the past administration led to the deterioration of the water treatment plants,” Doguwa lamented.

He further stated that thorough inspections are currently ongoing to identify and rectify rusted pipes that had deteriorated due to prolonged disuse, ensuring a sustainable water supply for these communities.
