Power Crisis: Lagos Youths Storm Streets Over Nationwide Blackout

Youths on Thursday staged a protest in parts of Lagos over the persistent lack of electricity supply in their communities.

The protesters, mostly young residents of the affected areas, marched through major roads carrying placards and chanting slogans to express frustration over the prolonged power outage.

During the demonstration, the youths repeatedly chanted, “Give us light, we are not asking for too much,” while calling on authorities to urgently address the situation.

The protesters said the continued absence of electricity had severely disrupted their daily activities and negatively affected small businesses that depend on stable power supply.

According to them, many residents and business owners have suffered financial losses due to the persistent outage.

They therefore urged the government and relevant authorities to take immediate steps to restore stable electricity supply to their communities.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Lagos State Government nor relevant power authorities had issued an official statement regarding the protest.

Nigeria has continued to grapple with unstable electricity supply in recent years, with frequent outages often attributed to challenges such as reduced gas supply and technical faults within the power sector.
