The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, on Wednesday inaugurated Hexing Livoltek, a new electricity meter manufacturing company in Lekki, Lagos State.
The facility also produces other electrical installations and solar products, marking a significant boost for Nigeria’s local content in the power sector.
Speaking at the event, Adelabu praised Hexing for its substantial investment in Nigeria, particularly at a time when some companies are pulling out of the country.
“Today’s event is significant in our journey towards a more efficient and equitable electricity sector,” he said.
Adelabu noted that the launch aligns with the government’s efforts to promote local production of essential energy components, reducing reliance on imports.
“This will reduce the pressure on the naira and improve the exchange rate, which has recently impacted the cost of living and the hardship people are experiencing,” he explained.
The minister highlighted the challenges of importing energy infrastructure, stating that local production would shorten the time needed to repair the country’s dilapidated power grid.
“If we can source these materials locally, the time required for fixing our infrastructure will greatly reduce, and the gaps in our power sector will be filled,” he added.
Adelabu also encouraged Hexing to integrate more Nigerians into its workforce to further promote local content.
Robert Liang, Chief Executive Officer of Hexing Group, expressed enthusiasm for the company’s expansion into Nigeria.
“This is a proud moment for Hexing as we open our branch in Nigeria. It’s more than just an office; it’s a step towards a future where clean energy drives the growth of this great nation,” Liang said.
He emphasised Hexing’s three decades of experience in smart energy systems and solar technology, adding that the company aims to support Nigeria’s energy needs with customised solutions.
“Hexing is here as a partner—not just a vendor—to support Nigeria’s transition to reliable and sustainable energy,” Liang concluded.
