Presidency Greenlights Full Payments for Super Falcons Ahead of WAFCON Final

In a major boost for Nigeria’s Super Falcons ahead of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final against Morocco, President Bola Tinubu has approved the full payment of all outstanding allowances and match bonuses.

The development was confirmed Thursday by Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, during a press briefing in Abuja.

Dikko revealed that payments covering all entitlements up to and including the July 26 final have already been disbursed, ensuring immediate access for players, technical crew, and officials.

“This is not just a payout—it’s a policy in motion,” Dikko said, emphasizing the Tinubu administration’s resolve to make timely payments a permanent feature of Nigerian sports governance. “It’s about restoring dignity and ensuring our athletes are motivated, respected, and financially secure as they represent the country.”

The announcement comes as the Super Falcons prepare for a high-stakes showdown with hosts Morocco, and marks a significant departure from past controversies that have plagued Nigeria’s sports scene—often characterized by delayed or denied entitlements.

In a parallel move, Dikko disclosed that D’Tigress, Nigeria’s women’s basketball team set to begin their 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket campaign in Côte d’Ivoire, will also benefit from enhanced financial support.

Improved bonuses and allowances have been earmarked to ensure morale and performance remain high.

“This is the kind of administration we’re building in sports—one grounded in transparency, accountability, and prosperity. President Tinubu’s reforms are not just for today—they are laying the groundwork for future generations,” Dikko added.

The gesture has been widely applauded across the sports community, seen as a critical step toward rebuilding trust between athletes and administrators.

As the nation rallies behind the Super Falcons, all eyes will be on Rabat this weekend, with both pride and a continental title at stake.
