President Tinubu Appoints Oloriegbe as NHIA Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has named Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe as the new Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

The announcement was made on Sunday in a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Oloriegbe’s appointment is set for an initial four-year term, effective from March 11, 2025.

A former senator who represented Kwara Central in the 9th National Assembly, Oloriegbe brings a wealth of experience in health and governance.

He previously served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health between 2019 and 2023 and also led the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health.

His academic credentials include a Master’s in Coaching and Consultation from the University of Oxford, UK, and HEC, Paris, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), and the International Aids Society (IAS).

Oloriegbe’s appointment is expected to drive significant reforms within the NHIA, as the administration seeks to enhance access to quality healthcare for Nigerians.
