…warns politicians against participating in LG election
SOJI AJIBOLA, IBADAN
Embattled local government chairmen under the aegis of Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Oyo State, have advised political parties and candidates intending to participate in the forthcoming local council election not to waste their hard-earned resources, as it will lead to nowhere.
Chairman of ALGON, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Alesinloye, at a press briefing in Ibadan, advised the participants to wait for the outcome of the Supreme Court ruling in a case instituted against the state government on illegal dissolution of the local councils by the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration.
He said it was surprising while all the parties in the suit are awaiting the May 7, 2021 judgement of the Supreme Court, the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, a party in the pending suit, published a timetable for council polls to be conducted on May 15, a week after expected ruling.
According to him, the proposed conduct of council polls is a further confirmation of Governor Makinde’s abuse of power and court process.
He stated, “Also, it is an indication that the government must have perfected his alleged plan to buy over the highly referred Justices of the Supreme Court in order to subvert the judgement or that the State Electoral body is ready to engage in an election Advance-fee Fraud.
“The Governor and his election team may just be grandstanding in a wild fight of fantasy just for psychological relief in order to give false hope of judicial victory instead of the uncertainty of where the pendulum of justice will swing in a protracted case.”
He, therefore, advised political parties and candidates not to invest in OYSIEC electoral market process, which will lead to nowhere if ALGON eventually wins at the Supreme Court.
