Raya Expresses Desire To Play In La Liga Despite Arsenal Stay

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has expressed his desire to play in Spain’s La Liga in the future, while stressing that he remains satisfied with life at the Premier League club.

The 31-year-old made the revelation during an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca on Wednesday, suggesting that a return to his home country remains a possibility despite his current commitment to Arsenal.

“Yes, I would love to. I would love to try out LaLiga,” Raya told Marca. “For now, I’m very happy here at Arsenal, but I would certainly like to experience the Spanish league. I think it’s a very competitive league. Perhaps, in the future, I could play for a Spanish club. I’m Spanish, and I’d love to play there, that’s for sure.”

Born in Barcelona, Raya moved to England as a teenager and has spent his entire professional career in the country. His current contract with Arsenal expires in June 2028.

He joined the Gunners from Brentford on an initial loan deal in 2023 before completing a permanent transfer. Since then, he has cemented his position among Europe’s leading goalkeepers, helping Arsenal win the Premier League last season and claiming the Golden Glove award for the third consecutive time.

Raya has also played a key role in the club’s progress in the Champions League and domestic cup competitions.

The Spanish international was included in Spain’s World Cup-winning squad during the summer, although he did not feature in any match.

Assessing his performances over the past season, the goalkeeper described it as the finest campaign of his career so far.

“I believe I’ve had a perfect year. Perhaps the only thing missing was playing in the World Cup. Every year since I arrived at Arsenal, I’ve continued to improve and hopefully that will keep happening.”

Despite his interest in experiencing Spanish football, Raya remains focused on achieving more success with Arsenal, particularly in Europe.

“My goal is to win everything. We want to establish ourselves as favourites. Hopefully we can go one better this year by lifting the Champions League, but there is still a long way to go.”
