Reno Omokri Defends Nigeria, Urges Citizens to Celebrate Positive Progress

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has called on Nigerians to embrace the country’s achievements and refrain from constantly highlighting its shortcomings.

Posting on his official X handle (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Omokri argued that while citizens are often quick to blame the country for challenges, they rarely attribute personal or collective successes to Nigeria.

“When bad things happen, enemies of this country are quick to say that ‘Nigeria has happened’ to them. But they take the good that occurs to them in Nigeria personally, without attributing it to our great nation,” Omokri wrote.

He noted that challenges such as crime and inflation are not unique to Nigeria. Citing comparisons with the United States, he claimed that America records more than 20,000 murders annually, yet Americans rarely disparage their nation because of it.

Omokri further pointed to what he described as significant progress under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He cited the rollout of student loans that have enabled 600,000 Nigerians to pursue higher education, a decline in inflation from 21.88 percent in July to 20.12 percent in August 2025, and improvements in electricity supply, including Nigeria’s record peak generation of 5,801.84MW.

He also asserted that Nigeria has transitioned from Africa’s largest petrol importer in 2023 to a net exporter of refined petroleum products, overtaking South Africa.

In addition, he highlighted economic expansion, stating that the country’s GDP had grown by $67 billion in two years, rising from ₦269.29 trillion in May 2023 to ₦372.8 trillion in 2025.

Nigeria is a great country, but it is not perfect because perfection is divine. There is no ideal country on Earth,” Omokri declared, while urging citizens to project more of the positive developments happening across the nation.
