Reps call for evacuation of Nigerians in Ukraine by February 28

The House of Representatives on Thursday demanded that Nigerians in Ukraine be evacuated by Monday, February 28.

Russia started military operation in Ukraine on Thursday after its President Vladimir Putin announced a military action against the neighbouring country.

Following the development, Rep Ahmed Munir, in a motion during plenary on Thursday, moved that Nigerians in the troubled country be evacuated.

He argued that there are many Nigerian students in Ukraine who could be caught in the crossfire.

Although some lawmakers fear it might have been too late to that as the evacuation out to have been done long ago, Reps Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, accepted the evacuation call and directed Leke Abejide to interact with the Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema to evacuate Nigerians from Ukraine by Monday, February 28.

The House Committee on Foreign Affairs was also mandated to liaise with the Foreign Affairs Ministry for the purpose.
