Reps Move to Extend 2024 Budget Implementation to December 31

The House of Representatives on Tuesday took a major step toward extending the lifespan of the capital component of the 2024 national budget, passing a bill for second reading that proposes shifting the implementation deadline from June 30 to December 31, 2025.

The bill, presented by Deputy Majority Leader Ibrahim Abdullahi Halims, is titled: “A Bill for an Act to Amend the 2024 Appropriation Act to Further Extend the Capital Components of the Act From 30th June 2025 to 31st December, 2025 and for Related Matters (HB.2404).”

While addressing the chamber, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen said the extension was crucial, citing the limited progress made so far in implementing the budget.

“The implementation of the 2024 budget has not been substantially done,” Abbas said.

Following a voice vote, the bill was passed for second reading and forwarded to the Committee on Supply for further legislative work.
