The House of Representatives’ investigation into the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) intensified on Thursday, August 6, 2026, after lawmakers questioned how vehicles linked to the organization obtained official Federal Government number plates.
The development emerged during the resumed sitting of the ad hoc committee probing the council, which the Presidency has said was never formally established by the Federal Government.
The committee said documents submitted to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for the number plate application purportedly listed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as chairman of the council, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) as secretary, and some serving ministers as members.
Appearing before the panel in Abuja, the FRSC Corps Marshal was asked to explain the approval process that led to the issuance of the official plates.

Committee chairman, Rep. Yusuf Gagdi, questioned why the documents were accepted despite alleged inconsistencies, including the absence of security features associated with authentic State House communications.
He said a document claiming to establish a presidential council and bearing the names of senior government officials should have undergone stricter verification before approval.
The committee noted that the official plates became a major issue in the probe after businessman Gbenga Collins told lawmakers that the presence of government vehicles, official registration plates and security personnel around the organizations leadership convinced him the body was a legitimate Federal Government institution.
The investigation follows broader concerns over how the alleged PFIPC obtained government-related recognition and administrative privileges despite lacking a clear legal foundation.
Lawmakers are continuing to examine documents and testimony from relevant agencies to determine how the organization operated with the appearance of an official government entity and whether institutional verification processes were breached.
