Reps Warn NPA, Customs Over Ignored Summons

The House of Representatives has warned the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and other federal agencies to stop ignoring invitations to appear before a parliamentary investigative committee.

The warning came on Friday, March 13, 2026, when the chairman of the Ad‑Hoc Committee on Ports Concessions, Hon. Kolawale Akinlayo, expressed frustration over repeated absences by agency heads and incomplete submission of requested documents, describing the actions as a direct challenge to the legislature’s oversight role.

The committee, inaugurated on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, by House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, is reviewing port concession agreements from 2006 to 2025, assessing compliance with contracts, evaluating revenue flows, and examining operational efficiency at Nigeria’s ports.

Akinlayo warned that the panel would no longer tolerate defiance. He said statutory powers, including summons, arrest warrants, and fines, could be applied to compel attendance, and persistent non-compliance could lead to recommendations for removal from office.

The committee’s warning signals the legislature’s determination to enforce transparency and accountability in the management of Nigeria’s seaports and related revenue.
