Residents of Oto community in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, have started deserting their houses as gunmen killed a soldier and carted away his rifle.
It was gathered that pandemonium broke out in the community when some unknown gunmen invaded the area in a speed boat and attacked the residents.
The suspects, in their efforts escape during the attack, fired gunshots at the soldiers at a checkpoint near Oton and killed one of them and also took away his rifle.
State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, while confirming the incident, said,”Yes! It’s true. His rifle was carted away.”
It was however, learnt that the event had made the residents to evade their houses with the fear of a possible reprisal attack by the soldiers in the community.
