Revealed! Forces at presidency move to hijack APC

Some forces in the presidency are said to have concluded plots to hijack the All Progressives Congress in the coming convention.

The party’s convention had been slated for February.

Ahead of this, the party’s governors and other stakeholders have been in engagements on who will be the best as the next chairman of the party.

It was gathered that the majority of the governors on APC platform had favoured Nassarawa State former governor, Tanko Al-Makura, as he is believed to be non-controversial in the party.

But this move may face a big challenge and sources said some forces in the presidency had been working hard to install their preferred candidate, a lawmaker representing Niger East, Senator Sani Musa.

A source in the party, who hinted on the development, explained that “Al-Makura is being tipped as the next chairman because he is a safe option and has no problem with any of the governors.”

“He was the only CPC governor in 2011 and he resisted all temptations to defect to another party but remained loyal to President Buhari. And you know Buhari cherishes loyalty.

“Also, he is a former governor so his emergence will correspond with APC’s longstanding tradition of electing former governors as national chairmen. The APC national chairmanship position will not be given to a newcomer or anyone that is having a crisis in his state,” the source added.

Another source in the party revealed that “Some powerful forces in the Presidency are supporting Musa, who sparked controversy in 2019 when he introduced the Protection from Internet Falsehood and Manipulation Bill.”

Recalled that the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, was recently accused of plans to hijack the party with some governors, an allegation that was immediately debunked.

This is coming as the APC governors at their meeting in Abuja on Sunday, insisted on holding the party’s national convention in February, possibly 26 and 27 of February, 2021.
