Rivers APC Chairman Demands Fubara’s Resignation, Threatens Impeachment

The political crisis in Rivers State deepened on Monday as the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Tony Okocha, called for the immediate resignation of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Okocha warned that failure to do so could result in impeachment proceedings against the governor.

Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, Okocha dismissed Fubara’s invitation to the 27 lawmakers aligned with former governor Nyesom Wike, describing it as a “Greek gift.”

He accused the governor of disregarding the rule of law and disrespecting President Bola Tinubu.

“The invitation to the lawmakers is a Greek Gift. The Supreme Court judgment is final. There is nothing anybody can do about it. The only option available to the governor now is for him to resign or be impeached,” Okocha stated.

The APC chairman’s remarks come amid heightened tensions in Rivers State following the prolonged political battle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike.

The crisis has led to a divided state assembly and multiple legal battles.

Observers are now watching closely to see whether the state legislature will act on Okocha’s call for impeachment or if Governor Fubara will take steps to de-escalate the situation.
