Rivers Crisis: Fubara Leaves Govt House Following Tinubu’s Emergency Rule

Tensions continue to mount in Rivers State as Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his family have vacated the Government House in Port Harcourt, following the declaration of emergency rule by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Sources confirmed that Fubara left the premises on Wednesday morning after spending the night there, fueling speculations about the governor’s next move amid the ongoing political crisis.

Despite the emergency declaration, Port Harcourt remains largely calm, with residents going about their daily activities. Business operations and market activities have continued uninterrupted, even as political discussions dominate conversations across the state.

Reactions to Tinubu’s intervention remain divided. While some residents support the move, seeing it as a step toward restoring stability, others argue that the president overstepped his constitutional authority by effectively sidelining the elected governor and House of Assembly.

A local resident, identified as Christ, shared his perspective on the situation, emphasizing that financial concerns weigh heavily on the minds of many.

“If the appointment of a sole administrator will lead to the release of Rivers’ allocations so that civil servants and local government workers can be paid, then it is a step in the right direction,” he said.

He further expressed concern over the potential consequences of prolonged financial instability in the state.

“I was imagining what will happen if, by the end of March, civil servants’ salaries are not paid. The real problem will then start in Rivers,” he added.

The unfolding crisis has placed Rivers State at the center of national attention, with many awaiting further developments on the fate of Governor Fubara and the state’s governance structure.
